The Writing Program in the Department of English at Georgetown University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position to begin in August 2027. The Georgetown University Writing Program (housed in the English Department) invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor. The Writing Program is responsible for the University’s first-year writing requirement, its writing-in-the-disciplines program (taught by faculty across the university), and an expanding portfolio of writing initiatives. The Assistant Teaching Professor will teach three courses each term, mostly first-year writing (capped at 15 students per section), and participate in Writing Program initiatives. The Writing Program contributes to Georgetown’s mission through our commitments to the pedagogical values of cura personalis , community in diversity, people for others, dialogue, and social justice. Non-tenure line faculty at Georgetown University are eligible for merit pay, contract renewal, promotion, benefits (including parental leave), and participation in faculty governance. Expertise with one or more of the following areas is desired: Community-engaged or experiential writing pedagogies • Inclusive, accessible, and anti-racist writing pedagogies • Pedagogical research on first-year writing / composition pedagogy • Translingual and multilingual pedagogies in first-year writing Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, English, or related field is required prior to appointment start date. Candidates must also have a strong record of teaching and scholarly engagement in Writing Studies.
