Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a PhD or prior teaching experience?
- No. Universities invite guest lecturers for their real-world expertise — most OpenLecture lecturers are working practitioners, not academics. Teaching experience helps but is not required.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Creating a lecturer profile and receiving introductions is 100% free for lecturers.
- How do universities find and contact me?
- Once submitted, your profile appears in our directory, browsable by topic. When a university wants you for a lecture, they request an introduction and we connect you directly.
- Can I lecture remotely?
- Yes. You choose your formats — online lectures, in-person lectures, or panel talks — along with your availability and how far you are willing to travel. Virtual-only speakers are welcome.
- How long does the application take?
- About 5 minutes. Your progress is saved after the first step, so you can come back and finish later.
- Can I keep my identity private?
- Yes. Anonymous mode hides your name and contact details from universities until you approve an introduction.
