About this position
The University of Chicago’s Department of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Assistant Instructional Professor in the Master of Science Program in Genetic Counseling. This is a full-time career-track teaching position, a two-year program designed to provide foundational training in genetic counseling. The core curriculum focuses on the applications and innovations in genetics, genomics, counseling, and applied research. Our current course offerings cover fundamentals of medical genetics, genetic counseling, ethics, and statistics. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. This position is benefits-eligible. The appointee will be appointed as Program Director and initially teach 3 courses per academic year in addition to substantial mentoring and service responsibilities. Their courses likely will include a core requirement in health communication & counseling techniques, medical genetics, as well as being the course director for fieldwork rotations based on professional expertise of the candidate. This course load is subject to change over time based on administrative and service duties. In addition, the appointee will advise students on their independent research projects and quarterly course selection, serving as first and second readers on projects, and providing broad academic and professional guidance to a cohort of master’s students in weekly office hours.
