About this position
The Department of Romance Language and Literatures at the University of Chicago invites applications for part-time Lecturers in French. The selected candidate will have part-time teaching opportunities in various courses of the French Language curriculum. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching language courses at various levels (elementary, intermediate, and/or advanced), holding regularly scheduled office hours, and the preparing and grading of assignments and testing materials. Depending on the curricular needs of the department, the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year. Teaching for this position will begin January 2027 for the Winter quarter or March 2027 for the Spring quarter. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary for academic year 2026-27 will be at least $9,193. This position is not benefits eligible. Qualifications: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in French Language pedagogy and/or a related field, superior proficiency in French and English according to ACTFL guidelines, and experience teaching French at the college or post-secondary level. A master’s degree is preferred.
