About this position
The Department of Chemistry in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for a part-time lecturer position. This position is expected to begin on or after September 28, 2026. The appointment will be for autumn quarter 2026, with the possibility of renewal for future terms and potential progression. The position responsibilities include teaching laboratory and discussion sections of general and/or organic chemistry and may involve non-classroom instructional or service duties as necessary. This position is part-time and is not benefits eligible. This is not a salaried position; compensation is paid on a per-course basis (or per course-equivalent) in the teaching quarter(s). Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the U.S. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University. Qualifications: Required qualifications: • By the time of hire, completion of all requirements for a degree (M.S.) in Chemistry or a related field. • At least one year of university-level teaching experience, either as an instructor of record or as a teaching assistant. Preferred qualifications: • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field • Training, credentials, or experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry.
