About this position

Adjunct Instructor, Chemistry & Biochemistry Mechanicsburg, PA, United States Employed on a per-load-unit basis for a given semester or term. Sole contracted responsibilities are those activities required in the delivery of a course (e.g., mentoring/coaching, preparation, teaching, grading, office hours). In some instances, there may be some contracted responsibilities for advising, course development or meeting other departmental needs. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of seven within the School of Science, Engineering and Health. There are currently 7 full time faculty in the department, as well as a full-time laboratory manager. About 6 part-time adjunct faculty assist in the laboratory program. The department offers both B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry, as well as a B.A. Chemistry Degree with Pennsylvania Teaching Certification. Chemistry is taught to first year students in majors such as engineering, nutrition, nursing, pre-physical therapy, and athletic training, as well as those majoring in chemistry, biochemistry and biology. In addition, a general physical science course is taught to incoming students majoring in elementary education. All of these courses contain laboratory components. Teach undergraduate classes on an as-needed basis. Create and maintain a course page in Canvas LMS structure; design and grade assessments of student learning; respond to students in a timely manner via weekly office hours and/or email. Courses typically meet face to face for 2.5-hours/week for 15 weeks either in three 50-minute lectures (MWF) or two 75-minute lectures. Scheduling may be adjustable, but typically occurs between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Responsibilities specific to the class or lab taught will be communicated on an individual basis. Qualifications Advanced degree or significant experience in the area relevant for the course that will be taught. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and positive student interaction and mentorship.
