Position Announcement The Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to work as an ASL tutor in the Language Hub. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Summary of Responsibilities - Tutor students enrolled in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually. - Complete a tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, assist in curriculum design for the Language Hub, and improve personal language skills. - Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events. - Perform other tasks as assigned by the Language Hub manager. Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications - Current UVU student registered for a minimum of 6.0 credits. - Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension, production, and writing. - Completion of ASL 3050, or equivalent, with a grade of at least an A–. - Available to work between 12–15 hours per week, during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and possibly some evening hours to be determined. Preferred Qualifications - Engagement with the Deaf community outside the academic setting. - Majoring or minoring in ASL and Deaf Studies. - Experience in teaching or tutoring. - Experience in utilizing tutoring services. - Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities - Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training. - Ability to adhere to a set schedule, generally 15 to 20 hours per week. - Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills. - General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.). - Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of ASL (grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, co
