About this position
The University of Rochester Medical Center in the Department of Plastic Surgery is accepting applications for a one-year non-ACGME accredited burn fellowship program in the Kessler Burn Center, a verified Burn Center by the American Burn Association in both pediatric and adult burns. Trainees will be hired at the rank of Instructor for a term of one year. Trainees will be instructed in the acute burn excision and reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of delayed burn sequelae. This individual would also be involved in resuscitation of burn injuries and related disorders such as; SSS, SJS, and TENS, critical care management. The Kessler Burn Center is a verified adult and pediatric burn center comprised of 24 adult burn beds (ICU and floor) and 26 pediatric burn beds (ICU and floor) and an outpatient burn clinic that is connected to the main hospital. There are approximately 300 burn admissions a year and 750 new outpatient burn visits per year. Total outpatient visits per year is approximately 3000. There exists a dedicated pediatric and adult burn unit as well as dedicated operating rooms and an outpatient burn clinic consisting of dedicated nursing and APP staff. The didactic curriculum would include participation in weekly multidisciplinary rounds, QA/QI, monthly M&M conferences, and burn research. The fellow would actively be involved in the outpatient burn clinic, and orchestrate with admitted burn patients’ coordination of care. Attendance at the Annual ABA conference is also required. The burn fellow would be expected to be actively involved in research and be involved in monthly research meetings. It would be the expectation that the burn fellow would be actively involved at regional/national/international burn meetings and submit abstracts and present at these meetings.
