Interests & speaking style
Interest My interest in delivering this guest lecture stems from a deep fascination with the evolving tension between traditional marketing theory and the lived reality of modern consumer behaviour. The linear funnel model once a cornerstone of marketing education no longer reflects how people discover, evaluate, and purchase products. This disconnect between academic frameworks and industry practice presents a compelling teaching opportunity. I am particularly drawn to the challenge of equipping postgraduate students with practical, evidence-based tools that help them navigate complexity rather than simplify it. The RACE, FCB Grid, IMC, and Multi-Touch Attribution frameworks offer students a structured yet flexible lens through which to view real-world problems. I am passionate about helping students bridge the gap between theory and application, ensuring they leave the classroom not just with knowledge, but with confidence to make strategic decisions in a fast-paced, data-driven industry. The interactive nature of this session—combining live discussion, digital tools like Semrush, and scenario-based activities—aligns with my belief that marketing education must be immersive, critical, and future-facing. Lecturing Style My lecturing style is participative, practice-led, and critically reflective. I design sessions that move beyond passive knowledge transfer, encouraging students to challenge assumptions, interrogate frameworks, and apply learning to authentic brand scenarios. Key characteristics of my style include: Active Learning: I integrate hands-on activities—such as audience segmentation sprints, competitor audits, and campaign planning exercises—to ensure students engage directly with the material and develop transferable skills. Real-World Relevance: I ground every concept in current industry examples, encouraging students to bring their own observations as consumers into the discussion. For instance, I invite students to reflect on their own digital behaviours, such as being retargeted across platforms, to make abstract theories tangible. I create a safe environment for debate and pushback. During this session, students challenged the applicability of the RACE framework in the context of social commerce an interaction I actively encouraged and navigated to deepen their learning. Clarity and Structure: I use clear frameworks, visual aids, and structured activities to guide students through complex topics, ensuring that learning objectives are transparent and outcomes are measurable. Student-Centred Approach: I adapt my delivery based on student engagement, questions, and interests, prioritising depth over breadth to ensure meaningful learning experiences. I approach lecturing as a collaborative journey one where I act as a facilitator of discovery, not just a transmitter of information. My goal is to leave students feeling equipped, curious, and empowered to apply strategic thinking in their own professional contexts.
