Visiting Part-Time Lecturer in Philosophy Description The Department of Philosophy at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a visiting part-time faculty position to teach one course during the Fall semester to begin in August 2026. The candidate will need to teach one introductory course (Philosophical Inquiries) scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-12:15 p.m.: PHIL 110 - Philosophical Inquiries Course count: 1 In a certain way, philosophy needs no introduction. Each of us has had moments of wonder: "Why do we exist?" "Why is there so much suffering in the world?" "Why does the world itself exist?" This one-semester course for first-year students helps strengthen that sense of wonder by giving the student insight into what some of the greatest thinkers have had to say about these questions. Readings from Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes and Kant. There are no employee benefits associated with this part-time visiting faculty appointment. Compensation for teaching one course in the Fall 2026 is $8,000. The College will not support H-1B visa applications that require the $100,000 employer fee. Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching and inclusive pedagogies as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field.
