About this position
The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks candidates to join the department as a tenure-ineligible Clinical Instructor for its Sports Neurology Fellowship. The Sports Neurology Fellowship is a one-year subspecialty training program with a focus in treatment of mild traumatic brain injury and other sports-related neurological injuries. The program involves clinical and research training with a focus on sports-related concussion, including training in the diagnosis, management, and return to function after concussion, and developing skills around building appropriate differential diagnosis and referral for alternative or confounding issues. Fellows will participate weekly in concussion outpatient clinics, as well as elective rotations in neuropsychology, sports medicine, athletic training, outpatient rehabilitation, neuro-otology, neuro-opthalmology, procedures and headache medicine. Sports Neurology fellows are also expected to participate in medical student and resident education, which may include regular involvement in didactics or other educational experiences. The University of Virginia and affiliated UVA Health form the premier institution for medical research and clinical care in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Sports Neurology Fellow will be welcomed into the highly collaborative environment of the University of Virginia and have ready access to several research-oriented schools and centers across the University of Virginia grounds, which provide a rich platform for shared discovery.
