About this position

Job Number: R0013827 The Departments of Music and African American Studies at Brandeis University seek an instructor for the course Hip Hop and Popular Music Production, a 4 credit course in Spring 2027. This course studies hip hop as both a technological history (turntables, synthesizers, drum machines, samplers) and a social history (migration, civil rights, deindustrialization, media consolidation, regional identity). Each week pairs a listening and reading unit with a hands-on production lab. The class meets for three hours on Fridays from 9:35am-12:25pm. Candidates with a Masters Degree or higher and at least five years of teaching and or music industry experience will be given preference. Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, a draft course syllabus, and names and contact information for two references. The deadline for first consideration is November 1. This appointment is to a position that is in a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 509. The compensation for this course is $10,000. Pay Range Disclosure The University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. Equal Opportunity Statement Brandeis University is an equal opportunity employer which does not discriminate against any applicant or employee on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religious creed, gender identity and expression, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, genetic information, disability, caste, military or veteran status or any other category protected by law (also known as membership in a "protected class").
