Posting Number: 20163226F Job Description Specific research contributions will be: A focus on knowledge about and experience with Effective Field Theories and Bayesian statistics with a goal of interaction with faculty, students, and staff that will foster new ideas and collaborations, and contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the campus. Collaborate with the Philosophy Department and with the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (INPP). Collaborate with Ohio University's Nuclear Theory Group, which presently includes three faculty members, two post-doctoral researchers, and five Ph. D. students to enhance research productivity, stronger future grant applications of the group, and results of high relevance in theoretical nuclear physics. Collaborate with Professor Phillips on nuclear Compton scattering calculations. Pedagogical benefits/activities include: Regular participation in the weekly group meeting of the Nuclear Theory Group, including interactions with Ph. D. students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty. Present a seminar to students, faculty, and postdocs in INPP on universality and a colloquium in the Physics & Astronomy Department on Compton scattering. Present a series of INPP lectures on Bayesian data analysis. Participate in a symposia on reductionism, EFTs, and a Bayesian framework for scientific inference - topics that can stimulate collaboration between Philosophy and Physics & Astronomy.
