Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of French and Francophone Studies at Georgetown University Georgetown University, College of Arts & Sciences, Department of French and Francophone Studies. One full-time, non-tenure-line position at the level of Assistant Teaching Professor. Three-year renewable contract. 3-3 teaching load will include courses in Topics for Oral Proficiency and courses in Business French. Our Topics for Oral Proficiency courses focus either on France or on Francophone Africa, combining a close examination of each region’s political history with an in-depth exploration of contemporary political, economic, and social developments. These courses are specifically designed to prepare students in Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) for the French proficiency examination required for graduation, while helping them develop the skills they need to approach contemporary issues through a global lens. This position also includes coordination of the Topics courses and of the SFS French proficiency examination. Experience in course design and curriculum development is highly desirable, as is expertise in second-language acquisition and French for professional purposes (business, law). No possibility of conversion to the tenure-line, but promotion within the non-tenure line is possible. The Georgetown University Department of French and Francophone Studies has a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research at all levels. Our overarching learning goal is to give students linguistic competency, cultural literacy, writing and research skills, and critical thinking abilities within a framework that encourages creativity.
