Assistant Instructional Professor in Latin

The Department of Classics at the University of Chicago invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable position as Assistant Instructional Professor in Latin, with an expected start date of September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The selected candidate will teach courses across all levels of Latin; the teaching load will be seven courses over the three quarters of the 2026-27 academic year. Please note that candidates should be available to teach in-person from the start of the autumn quarter through the end of the spring quarter. Responsibilities include both teaching and service duties. Service duties related to the Latin program may include advising undergraduate theses, creating and overseeing placement exams and graduate language exams, teaching independent studies, mentoring graduate students and new instructors, or other Latin program-specific duties. The position also includes service, such as co-curricular activities and outreach. Instructional Professors of all ranks are required to engage in regular professional development. Salary Range or Pay Grade: Assistant Instructional Professor: $75,676; this base pay is for a nine-month academic appointment paid over twelve months during the 2026-2027 academic year. The position also includes a relocation allowance for qualifying expenses. This position is benefits-eligible. Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Master's or PhD degree in a related field, PhD preferred, and demonstrate proficiency in Latin. Applicants should have prior experience teaching at the college or university level.
