About this position

Description Grand View University is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach Speaking of Faith and Meaning, a public speaking course that explores effective communication through topics related to faith, spirituality, belief, meaning, vocation, and service. The instructor will teach foundational public speaking skills, including research, speech organization, audience analysis, delivery, and presentation techniques. Students will develop and present a variety of speeches, including informative, narrative, persuasive, commemorative, and interpretive presentations. The course also incorporates discussion and analysis of how speakers communicate ideas about faith and meaning to diverse audiences. This course is taught both in in-person and online asynchronous modalities. Previous experience with Blackboard or another LMS and online teaching experience is very helpful. The successful candidate will create an all-encompassing classroom environment and help students develop confidence and competence as ethical, effective speakers and listeners.Please include the following with your application: Current Resume 3-5 References Unofficial Transcripts from most currently attended Institution All applicants must apply through our online application system. Pre-employment background check required. Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communication, Theatre, Speech, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field. Demonstrated experience with public speaking and/or communication. Experience teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring students in effective oral communication. Ability to facilitate respectful discussion of diverse faith traditions, beliefs, and perspectives. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a relevant field. College-level teaching experience. Background in public speaking, communication, theatre, preaching, or religious studies. Experience working with diverse perspectives on faith, spirituality, vocation, or meaning
