Job Description The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery seeks a board-certified or board-eligible Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to provide clinical instruction and patient care within the predoctoral and graduate educational programs at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Dentistry. This part-time Open Rank Professor position will support the department's educational, clinical, and service missions through direct supervision of dental students and residents while participating in the delivery of comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgical care. Responsibilities TEACHING AND CLINICAL EDUCATION:Provide direct clinical supervision of D3 and D4 dental students in the predoctoral Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic. Teach principles of dentoalveolar surgery, diagnosis, treatment planning, local anesthesia, management of odontogenic infections, exodontia, and management of surgical complications. Evaluate student competency and provide formative and summative clinical assessments. Promote evidence-based decision-making and professionalism in the clinical environment. GRADUATE EDUCATION:Provide clinical supervision and surgical instruction for OMFS residents (PGY-1 through PGY-4). Participate in resident education through intraoperative teaching, outpatient clinic supervision, case review, and clinical mentoring. Assist faculty with resident evaluation and competency development. Participate in graduate didactic conferences and educational activities as appropriate. PATIENT CARE:Provide comprehensive outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgical care in support of the educational mission. Supervise patient evaluation, treatment planning, dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery, management of odontogenic infections, and ambulatory anesthesia procedures consistent with departmental needs.
