JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Adjunct Instructor of College Reading & Critical Thinking DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Freshman Studies | Office of Institutional Effectiveness FLSA STATUS: Part-Time | Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: VP for Institutional Effectiveness and Chief Operating Officer The Adjunct Instructor of College Reading and Critical Thinking is a part-time faculty position employed for a specific assignment and specified academic term. The Adjunct Instructor of College Reading & Critical Thinking shall have the primary responsibility of supporting the division of Freshman Studies by maximizing its operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives. Essential Functions Teach assigned introductory or developmental reading courses using evidence-based literacy strategies. Manage and deliver the course syllabus according to department learning outcomes and standards. Create active learning environments that improve critical thinking, text annotation, and retention strategies. Design and grade assessments, quizzes, and projects, providing constructive, timely feedback. Hold regular office hours to assist struggling readers and connect them with campus tutoring networks. Utilize the institutional Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas or Blackboard) to post grades, track attendance, and share course materials. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Freshman Studies Division. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
