FLSA: Exempt Contract Length: N/A Class Summary: N/A Position Type: Adjunct Position Funding: Regular Minimum Education/Training/Experience Education: Certificate in a related technical discipline (e.g., maritime structural fitting, welding, or shipbuilding fabrication), or 1 year at Associate degree (completed at least 1 year toward an Associate Degree in Marine Engineering or Welding Technology) or the equivalent combination of education (HS/GED), technical certifications or trainings (NCCER Maritime Structural Fitter, AWS welding codes, marine welding standards). Experience:1-3 years of directly related experience as Class 1 shipfitter, maritime fabricator or shipbuilding fabrication technologies, or 3+ years experience in shipfitting, structural fitting, or related maritime trades.Preferred Education/Training/Experience Associates of Arts/Associates of Science in related technical discipline. NCCER Level 2 certification in maritime structural fitterMinimum Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of ship construction methods, materials, and safety protocols. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Experienced with layouts, metal structural parts fabrication for plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing in position within hull of ship for riveting or welding. Ability to prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts. Metallurgy and materials science knowledge as it pertains to maritime technologies. Welding, rigging, structural fitting experience in maritime technologies/shipyard. Strong math and measurement skills, including fractions and tape measure reading (standard and metric). Preferred Knowledge & Skills 3-5 years experience as 1st class shipfitter or 1-3 years as class 2. Knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in maritime technologies.
