Teaching experience
I am an adjunct instructor of English at Western Kentucky University, where I teach online sections of ENG 200: Introduction to Literature. I independently developed a course emphasizing poetry, drama, fiction, close reading, literary interpretation, and analytical writing. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing and a graduate certificate in Online Teaching of Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. My teaching experience also includes secondary education in Kentucky and Illinois. Before entering higher education, I worked as a Senior Quality Analyst at Palmetto GBA, where I developed instructional materials, led cross-departmental training initiatives, and trained employees and trainers in technical procedures, quality assurance, and process improvement. My experience spans university instruction, secondary education, professional development, and organizational training.
Interests & speaking style
My approach to teaching and storytelling begins with a simple principle: "Every word is a decision." I am interested in how writers construct meaning, how audiences receive and interpret it, and how creative choices shape the experience of a story. My lectures connect literary theory and practical craft through close reading, recognizable examples, discussion, and real-world applications. As a fiction writer, editor, and university instructor, I enjoy exploring the intersection of creative practice and critical analysis. My style is conversational, engaging, and intellectually challenging without being unnecessarily formal. I encourage students to question assumptions, examine creative decisions, and participate actively in constructing meaning. I am particularly interested in guest lectures that bridge disciplines, including creative writing, literature, game narrative, publishing, and professional communication.
