Guest lecture topics
My areas of expertise include criminology, criminal justice, social work, child welfare, interpersonal violence, victimology, and trauma-informed practice. I can lecture on topics related to intimate partner violence, hidden homicides, crime scene staging, victimization, and the challenges associated with identifying concealed homicides. My professional experience at a Children's Advocacy Center also allows me to provide lectures on child abuse and maltreatment, child forensic interviewing, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, victim advocacy, and multidisciplinary responses to child abuse and family violence. Additionally, I can lecture on internet safety, cyberbullying, sexting, online exploitation, healthy relationships, and prevention education for children and adolescents. My academic research experience also allows me to discuss interdisciplinary research, scoping review methodologies, and translating research findings into professional practice. I aim to integrate academic research with real-world professional experiences to provide students with practical perspectives on social work, criminology, criminal justice, and victim services.
Teaching experience
My teaching experience includes facilitating professional training, community education, and prevention-focused presentations for diverse audiences. As an Authorized Facilitator for Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children program, I provide evidence-informed training to professionals and community members on recognizing, preventing, and responding to child sexual abuse. Through my work at a Children's Advocacy Center, I have also developed and delivered educational presentations on child abuse prevention, internet safety, cyberbullying, sexting awareness, personal boundaries, and healthy relationships to children, adolescents, parents, and community members in both English and Spanish. Additionally, I have experience presenting academic research to university and professional audiences, including co-presenting research on hidden homicides in intimate partner violence at the University of Texas at Arlington. These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate complex subjects, facilitate discussions, adapt instructional approaches to different audiences, and connect academic research with real-world professional practice.
