Interests & speaking style

Marketing is an evolving dialogue, constantly in motion, so I teach my students to be curious rather than to treat what they learn as fixed. That belief shaped how I built my Principles of Marketing course at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa: a team-based capstone requiring students to develop a real business concept for their own community, real practitioners brought into the classroom to answer their questions directly, and a dedicated unit on AI-driven workflows, lifecycle marketing, and the revenue and operations side of the discipline, because I want students to leave knowing both the math and the art that make marketing work. My exams follow the same logic, built as real-world simulations and problem-solving scenarios rather than memorized terminology, so a student is prepared to reason through a live decision, not just recall a definition. Across two semesters, that approach moved my course evaluations from 4.25 to 4.83, ahead of the university, college, and department averages, and led three students so far to ask me for letters of recommendation into advanced programs. Those results come from a relationship I build with each student, one I take as seriously as the curriculum itself. I hold weekly office hours, write references for students after our course together ends, and work directly with Title IX and disability services so every student has a real voice when they need one. That same commitment carries over from where I come from professionally: for six years before teaching, I ran live, synchronous training through LMS and video conferencing platforms for marketing teams at LocaliQ, Cox Automotive, and Shadowcat Solutions, translating attribution modeling, segmentation, and funnel analytics into frameworks non-specialists could apply immediately. That's the same discipline, knowing your audience, adapting delivery, and measuring whether it's landing, that I bring to every classroom.
