Teaching experience
Teaching - Department of Biomedical Engineering, National University of Singapore (2013–2019) Teaching Certificate, NUS teaching assistant training programme. Taught four undergraduate courses as a teaching assistant: Bioengineering Design Workshop (hands-on SolidWorks tutorials), Quantitative Physiology for Bioengineers (designed and ran ECG and pulmonary physiology laboratory sessions), Introduction to Biomechanics (bone mechanics testing using Instron), and Biomedical Engineering Design (mentored student design projects). Supervised final-year-project students and research interns, and mentored visiting US undergraduates through the SERIUS summer programme. Selected invited talks and panel discussions: • Expanding Horizons in Femtech - FemTech Connect Asia, Singapore, June 2024 • Asia's Most Innovative FemTech Companies - Women's Forum for the Economy & Society, Singapore, June 2024 • FemTech: The Way of Tomorrow - 3rd ASEAN Healthcare Transformation Summit, Kuala Lumpur, May 2023 • Broadening Access to Health Through Service Innovations (panel) - GCNS Youth Forum, Singapore, May 2023 • Women in Tech: Our Biotech Journey - Workforce Singapore & Biotech Connection Singapore, April 2023 • SheForShe: Beyond Celebrating - Bosch Global Software Technologies Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, April 2023 • EloCare IoT Devices for Women's Health and Ageing Care - World Congress on Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering (IUPESM), Singapore, June 2022 • Remote Healthcare Monitoring: Broadening Access to Care - Galen Growth HealthTech Summit, November 2021 • Remote Healthcare Monitoring: Broadening Access to Care - Galen Growth HealthTech Summit, November 2021 Author of 12 peer-reviewed journal publications in biomedical engineering.
Interests & speaking style
I teach from the practitioner's side. My background is research - a PhD in cardiovascular biomechanics and 12 publications - but most of what I now find worth teaching came from trying to turn research into a product people actually use: the engineering, the clinical studies, the funding, the regulatory reality, and the gap between a result that works in a controlled lab and one that works in someone's daily life. I like sessions that are concrete and honest, built around real examples, experiences, and the parts that went wrong as much as the parts that worked. I like to teach and inspire at the same time, encourage students to know what to look for and grow further beyond the course. I'm happy to shape content around a course's existing material or a cohort's level.
