POSITION SUMMARY The Adjunct Faculty Member at Pierce Mortuary Colleges is responsible for providing and sustaining an effective learning environment for every student through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation and feedback on student progress, and support of academic success for all students. The Adjunct Faculty member is expected to deliver high-quality instruction in assigned science courses while maintaining institutional standards and fostering student engagement and retention. Courses taught by Adjunct Faculty must meet a minimum enrollment to receive the full compensation of $850 per credit hour. Enrollment below the required minimum will result in proration of compensation. REPORTS TO: The Adjunct Faculty works under the guidance and supervision of the Academic Dean. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teaches the depth and scope of course material as outlined in the approved syllabus, catalog, and institutional curriculum for assigned science courses. Provides engaging classroom instruction utilizing current scientific principles, instructional methodologies, and appropriate practices. Prepares and grades examinations, assignments, and other assessments based upon course objectives and published exam schedules. Standardized assessments may be required for midterm and final evaluation purposes. Provides grades to all students within established institutional timeframes. Implements evaluation methods for outcomes assessment and achieves established learning outcomes while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction. Provides substantive and timely feedback to students on assignments. Works creatively in all classes taught to discourage student withdrawal and maintain satisfactory retention. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or another closely related scientific discipline from a regionally accredited college or university; or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, faculty, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and instructional methodologies
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and exercise sound professional judgment regarding sensitive and confidential matters
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
