Job ID: 374750 About the Job Job Description The Department of French & Italian maintains a pool of lecturers and teaching specialists to teach French and Italian courses, mostly lower-division language skills courses, that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate teaching assistants. These positions may be full- or part-time for fall or spring semesters, and summer. These positions are for day, evening, or a combination of day/evening courses, taught on a semester basis. Salary range is competitive based upon qualifications. Duties and responsibilities: Teach assigned language classes/sections; keep office hours; prepare course materials; engage in curriculum development; prepare and grade exams; and participate in program meetings as appropriate. Teaching one course per semester is 34%; teaching two courses per semester is 68%, teaching two courses and assisting with another course is 84%, teaching three courses per semester is 100%. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Candidates with a Masters degree will be appointed as Teaching Specialist; candidates with a Ph.D. will be appointed as Lecturer. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSM.A. or foreign equivalent in French, Italian, or related area. Native or near-native fluency in French or Italian. Strong English language communication skills University-level teaching experience in French or Italian language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. or foreign equivalent in French, Italian, or related area. Two or more years of university-level teaching experience in French or Italian language.
